Default Instrument Cluster
I have a 96 Ranger.. XLT Single Cab - 3.0.. I think my odometer has fell off the deep end.. it randomly works.. the speedometer works fine... I feel that replacing the instrument cluster is my best bet? (But taking other suggestions)..

My next questions, if i get a cluster with a TAC (mine does not have it) will it work with my current setup, or is there another wire/sensor to connect?

Either way, I think replacing is a good idea! Fuel gauge doesn't work, so I depend on milage, but if THAT isn't working either.. I thikn I could be in a bind..

yes you can swap in a tached cluster. Its all plug an play. clusters from 98+ have a few lights different, door ajar and fuel light I think...? but will still work

1995-2003 will work
1998-2003 explorer
also sport trac will also fit.

Mhmm. I wish I would have known that, but i sodered a light from the old door ajar light to the new spot so i dont lose that. Everytime my door would open, CHECK GAS CAP would light up and drove me crazy.

Can you please explain how did you do that??? I have the same problem together with no "CHECK ENGINE" light... can you help me???

On this topic, I/son have a 1997 Ranger, 2.3L, we wish to upgrade to a Tachometer. We have been through 2 of them. In both cases, the odometer does not work and the temp gauge is out of calibration (reads low). Both clusters were from Explorers.

The rear PCB is different on the tach one, the connectors match up, but something else is wrong.

Thoughts?
