7-10 Amp fuse is NORMAL
you should use 16 gauge wire and run it through a GROMMET when passing thru your firewall to your battery

yes you can run it to the required amperage in the fuse box, you would have to put a terminal on the end of wire, i forget the name of the terminal, someone else will chime in.

I know ill probably catch some heat for this, hut for years I've been hardwiring everything in my cars, I run a cable to the fusebox, find a fuse that is suitable, and take the hot lead and fold the wire underneath the fuse and put it back in, then ground the ground wire. This is helpful when you're trying to wire to a source that turns on and off with the car.

No actually thats not a complete bad thing to do, but you have to make sure that the original circuit's wires can handle the extra load and you have to make sure that the fuse is resized to the correct load as well. A better Idea would be to run a relay off of it.

Sorry, no idea what the connector is called

I dont know how mechanially inclined you are but one could find out what fuse number the lighter is and pull the fuse box and look behind that fuse to find that wire color is being used and chase it over to where it's been cut attach new wire there and rewire it up to the replacement element.
or if someone with the same year can pull their bezzel and tell you what color wire is being used?
or if your model year has a power point.just jumper off of it to the lighter element.I dont think you'd have to install a bigger fuse. There's not that much draw in the lighter,I think the cig lighter is a 10amp and the power point is a 30amp.
