My wife does not like riding in my ranger. It is loud (no muffler) and dirty. She isn't one of those type of girls who doesn't like to get dirty, usually she is dressed in her work clothes and well mud and grease are sometimes hard to get out!!

I don't see the need to detail and fancy up a 20 year old truck that is rusty and muddy.

Dont put it in the back, put the kid up front, or better yet take the car. I am certified for child safety seat inspections through NHTSA and safekids.org, any questions pm me, I will help you out. You can also check out safekids.org for more details, but ultimately, your safest bet is a car...or a baby sitter

when my daughter was in a car seat i had her sideways in a car seat fastened down to the jump seat, ran the seatbelt through the frame of the car seat and had a tarp strap keeping things tight and in place, worked fine with no problems. really not much to worry about, as long as everything is secure you should be good to go. it was a smaller child seat than normal, think i found it used at a garage sale. my daughter is 16 now, so its been quite awhile back, didnt have a digital camera then, so there is no pics of the setup. id do it again if nessesary, at the time when i first did that the ranger i had was a 4 cyl and the other vehicle was a astro van. the ranger got much better fuel milage and we went out of state alot, it made more sence then to take the more effeceint vehicle.

hell, even if the wife could fit in the jumpseat area, the seatback of the frontseat wouldnt go back far enough to latch, and the jumpseat itself would probly break. and both rangers have been std shift, which she refuses to learn how to drive (and not a bad thing, in the long run)

^^^16 yrs ago I'd drive a damn RV! hahahaha, with fuel prices. Of course back in the day, there were really no strict laws on the issue. My wife was telling me the other day about when they were kids, they would be put in apple crates in the back of the farm truck!

i remember riding in the rear window area in moms fairlane 500 when i was real young (this would have been, say 1977) now that my child is older, on really long trips i have 3 carpet coverd panels that go in the bed of the truck (i have a cap) and she can streach out and sleep or just lay there and read for the trip, the 2nd vehicle now is a S10 blazer, it actually does better on fuel than the 4.0 ranger, but the blazer has nearly 200K miles, i try to let it rest whenever i can. the truck has only 137K and gets only 12 miles a day put on it normally. theres too many regulations these days, use your head and watch what your doing, chances are everything will be alright.

Ok ill jast squeeze everyone up front. Even tho this girl is 5 foot flat, and maybe 90ish pounds, its a good excuse to have her close to me. I would take her. Car but she drives a lowered civic and I dondoubt it would make it to this lake plus where would we put the canoe?!

Hey jeff I would be down to trade but im going to be doing this on friday morning and don't know if I wanna drive to lodi lol

I have looked and a friend of mine is pushing me to do it. I have looking in MI and WI and the closest one to me is about 2 hours away in the middle of Sept. Most of them are 4 hours or more away.

It all comes down to how much is it going to cost. The class is fine, it is worth it to me. The major cost comes with the travel. And right now financially we can swing it.

NEVER DO THAT!!!!! The back seats aren't safe for anyone! I have seen videos of how infant crash dummies fare in hard rear and front end collisions in side facing rear jump seats........not worth the risk. I went to a child seat safety class at the Sheriff's dept with my daughter, not recommended and in some states it is illegal.

The only thing worse than putting a 20 month old's car seat in the back seat is putting her in a canoe!

A lowered Honda Civic is dangerous too.......Not exactly reinforced like a low Mustang GT or Corvette.
