Default Power window grinding noise

My drivers side window wont roll up all the way. It works find but it rolls up until there is about a quarter inch gap between the glass and the seal and then it just starts grinding. Its hard to wash my truck without getting a bunch of water in the interior. The wind noise is pretty annoying when I am trying to talk on the phone. The motor just keeps going. I think it has some kind of gear and the teeth are stripped on the part that is in contact with the motor gear or vice versa when its at that particular position. I would really appreciate it if somebody that has had this problem before could help me out.

I got the same problem. can you pull the window up with a hand on either side? I can, and if I do that and try the window down, it will make the grinding noise until I push the window down a fuzz. I'm going to tear into the door here soon. I post what I find out

It is the teeth on the regulator they are ground off at the point where the window is rolled up.

Have had same prob on a 2000 XLT & you are correct - it is the teeth on the regulator at the "up" end. You can get a new motor-regulator assembly from several online parts houses for about $70. It will take you the better part of an afternoon to install it but at least it is doable for someone reasonably competent with tools. The old one is riveted in with four 1/4" rivets. You have to drill them out. For replacements I used 1/4" bolts with aircraft style self-locking nuts.
