new cluster ?'s
some of you may have seen my thread on this, but if you didnt, I managed to SCORE a white/silver cluster from an expo sport
I want to put it in the truck obviously, But I have a few concerns...
I know that im gonna have to balls up and crack into this thing to match the odometer to my current mileage, but is there a way to tell if the odometer is going to work properly before I do all the work?
(see this thread for what I mean-- White Sport Trac Cluster $50 OBO (CA))
I want to make sure that I wont have that problem on this cluster
I was also wondering if this cluster was supposed to have the black ODO counting part on it....all the other ones that I have seen have had the white ODO Is this an indication of a problem?
and one more question...what do I need to fill the shift indicatior space in? I have a stick shift, and obviously wont need that part, but If I just take it out, there will just be an ugly hole with light coming though it.....
Thanks for the help guys. I know these may be stupid questions, but I am kind of nervous about this swap and matching the odometer

Re: new cluster ?'s
You should be able to use your stock filler plate to cover the hole, i could be wrong tho. Also its a good oportunity to personalize your cluster and put sonething cool on the blank plate. As for checking the odo for function, only way i can thinkbis to pop it in and go for a spin around the block and just tack the extra mile or two on when you roll it to your mileage.

Re: new cluster ?'s
yep stock ranger filler plate will work and you could prolly test the motor for the odo with a 9V battery and see if it spins...as for the odo color ive seen both white and black in the cluster

Re: new cluster ?'s
just swap your old odometer into your new cluster. I found that if you place the needle under the stop pin, and line it up so the needle tip covers the bottom of M on the outside leg, it is spot on. Makes it easy to reset needle. I think you would like the white number odometer over the black numbered one

Re: new cluster ?'s
I wanted to leave the stock odometer alone, that way if I break the white cluster or whatever while modding, I wont be SOL
and what method do you use when you roll the odometers on your LED modded clusters pooleo?

I roll them with my thumb

I have never seen a white cluster with the black OD. I would suspect it has been changed, but maybe not, idk

Re: new cluster ?'s
yeah, I havnt had any problems. Just go nice and slow
but, you are going to have to talk the od out to do it, so I would just swap your old od into it.

no, no gears. Just take the needle off and unbolt the OD and bolt it back on. Reset the needle
