Question shift knob - what can i do?

I have a 1992 ranger xlt - its an I4 with a 5 speed
I understand the my shift knob is splined - not threaded.
But im wanting to put an 8ball on there (from SickSpeed)
it is threaded im sure - could i put it on with some type of adhesive or would replacing the shift lever and knob be a better idea.
I bought the truck about a month ago and have been cleaning it up - the guy also had a towel cramed in around the base of the shift lever (idk why) and the lever is a little loose (also not sure why) but i figured id get under it and look at linkages.
any thoughts?

Fill the inside of the 8-ball with Black RTV, let is set up about 3 min and stick it on.

Gorilla glue might work, I was thinking perhaps epoxy would be the way to go. It depends on how snug the replacement knob is though. RTV might do the trick and it would be easier to remove if you decide you don't like the new knob.
