Default Clutch Sometimes Becomes Very Stiff while Driving

As the title says, while driving sometimes I will push the clutch in and it will be very stiff, especially if i am driving up a mountain it will happen after a minute or so of driving. Though if i push the clutch in it will soften out to normal, it has recently started happening during regular street driving which is rare but I would like to know the reason if any of you wouldn't mind educating me

98 Ranger, XLT 3.0 6Cyl, 68k Miles 2WD; after routine spark plug, oil, and air filter change I still notice just an added FYI, any other info i will happily supply

thanks in advance
