Default Seat movement

86 XLT extended cab. I just put a set of Explorer seats in the truck and didnt notice till Yesterday that I had a limited seat movement on the drivers side seat. The seat doesnt move froward enough on that side to allow anyone or anything to get in the back area. You have to go around the passenger side to get in. My question is... Is this a normal movement for the seat or is there a broken seat track? I know it wont move as far forward as the passenger seat due to the steering wheel being where it is. There is only about 4 inches of movement from back to front. If its suppposed to move more I need to now that so I can find another seat track. Thanks for the help

should be more than that. i put a set of ex seats in a 40 ford, power driver, manual passenger and they both moved the same distance front to back.

Then these tracks are messed up? Got any extras . i had 60/40 seats in my truck. I need a set for the drivers side. There arent any bone yards around here that have any rangers. I have looked high and low for a donor vehicle but no luck.

are they the stock ranger tracks on the ex seats, or the ex tracks? i would pull the seat out, put some white lithium grease on the tracks and see if you can work them back and forth. they may just be seized up a little.

if they are your ranger tracks, did they work before? if so, then something is holing it in place.

i have a set of power explorer seats here, but i don't want to split them up. i have a couple u pull its around here, but no time to go right now.

They are the stock ranger seat tracks. They did this before I changed them to the explorer seats. I looked inside the track and it looks as if there is a stop inside it. It moves when the seat slides then it hits a stoop and it stops. I cannot get this apart to investigate further.

so you are saying it only moved this small amount with the ranger seats as well? if that's the case, then that's probably as far as they go. they obviously move far enough to get them bolted to the floor, and the seat to the tracks.

sounds like that's just the limit. i just took a part a set of gen 1 broncoII seats and the driver's side moved the same as the passenger. the best thing would be to get the track to where you can really see what's going on with it.

I just thought the seats would move more than that . At least enough to get in the back from the drivers side. Maybe its because of the steering wheel. I have access to some Mustangs,Escorts,Taurus,Probes etc at a local yard . Do you think they would nolt to the explorer seat and then bolt to the floor of the ranger? Or should I look for the passenger side tracks.
Bolting the tracks to the floor was never an issue. There was plenty of room to mount them.

all those seats will need to bolt to your ranger tracks. the only other tracks that should work with your floor would be explorer seat tracks. you won't be able to use the passenger seat tracks on the driver's side. they won't bolt to the floor.

The explorer seat tracks I got with the seats will not bolt to the ranger floor without new holes. The back holes are further apart than the stock Ranger and the front mount is too wide also and the and the angle of the hump and the bend of the track are different.

ok. wasn't sure about the older ext cabs. 95+ ext cabs, explorer seats pretty much bolt in. minor trimming of one of the back holes.

it sounds like that's as far as it moves. maybe you can remove that piece of metal that is stopping it, but you would need to put something back in to keep it from sliding too far.

Since its pouring rain here I think I will pull the drivers seat ,fit the explorer seat track to fit the holes on the Ranger and install those tracks. That should work?????
