I think most use the mounting bracket by screwing it into the roof.
there is enough gap so you wont puncture the very top.

do i pull the headboard back or do i just screw in, or do i risk screwing and cutting wires etc. if i use tiny screws etc i dont think i would screw through the roof?

Excuse me for saying so, but based on the questions you're asking, I don't think you should be attempting this installation at the current time.

...because I read the questions he was asking, and the statements he was making, and it sounds like he's not quite ready to be removing the headliner, building a backing bracket to mount the CB that will fit under the headliner, mounting it, cutting the headliner appropriately, etc.

it sounds more like he's going to use "tiny screws" and try to hang the CB bracket directly from the headliner. ...or, slightly longer "tiny screws" and end up piercing the skin of the roof on his truck.

In short, I don't think he's as ready to do this level of modification as he thinks he might be.
