So you're saying that the 8 mile range out of my fiberglass antenna is impossible?

102 steel wip IS the most efficient a center loaded coil is good too, but a fiberglass continous loading antenna is actually good, IF you get atleast a 4 footer really need a 5 for it to work its best

when it comes to antennas read this, its VERY helpfull to novice CBers

http://signalengineering.com/ultimat..._antennas.html

as for 8 miles ........ with a good antenna with a low SWR you COULD bare foot (running stock "legal" 4 watts) but there is a good MAYBE in there too, if you really want to talk on it get a export radio thats converted and get you some walkin shoes or foot warmer (linear), another option is getting a regular cb "raped" (peaked and tuned)

im talkin 30 miles with a export with a linear running about 300 watts mobile

im talkin atleast 80 miles basestation export with about 400watts, if i can catch "skip" i have talked 2000 miles, the most ever "skiping" was austraila

I plan on picking up a Cobra 29LTD with Bluetooth so I can use it for phone conversations. Mounting it up on the roof. I plan on fabbing up a headache rack and mounting my antenna top center and running the coax up through the rear of the cab and across the headliner. I will be recovering the headliner and adding a black mustang dome light at the same time. I will post pictures when I can get back into my shop....

Thanks, Jeff

Wait... Why's this? I'm getting my antenna setup tonight, and was gonna mount them in between the toolbox and front of the bed, probably mounted right onto the backside of the toolbox.

I to have a compact one. I mounted mine to the bottom of the tray below the radio. Its out of the way but still easy to reach.

Either location will be fine. You'll lose some having the antenna against the cab.

I mounted mine above my rear view mirror.. I took a block of wood and put it behind the headboard and then screwed the CB Radio into the wood and have the mic hanging on my mirror! I ran the wires to everything in the headliner and down the pillers so that you cant see anything!

Im running a cobra 29ltd classic. Havent had any problems. Also if ur running faberglass whips if u run a dual whip setup u wont get as much range as you would with one. I grew up in a trucker family and its always been said if they are closer than 6 feet they cut your reception so thats why i run one for the cb and one for the radio
