Default Stereo mess up. Anyone?

Ok, so apparently I messed up somewhere with the stereo I just put in to replace the stock stereo and now I am only getting sound from the front speakers. If I turn the fade all the way to "rear" I can hear a little from the back, but very soft. Once every so often the back speakers will "pop" too.

What did I do wrong? Wires messed up somewhere or just a lousy stereo? It's not an expensive one...actually a cheap one VR3 (but I already had it from 3 years ago so I used it).

Any suggestions?

First off, check to see if you have a short in the wiring to your rear speakers, IE exposed wiring. You could also pull the deck back out and wire the front leads to the rear speakers to verify they are in working order. It could also be the deck's internal amp. I've never heard of only the rear channels going bad, but it could happen. What kind of deck is it? Did you buy it new?

I know all the speakers were working before I put the new stereo in, so I'm thinking I wired something wrong. I'll try your suggestions tomorrow. Thanks!

Check all the wiring for your headunit plug. Most likely that's your problem.

Could be something as simple as a shorted wire behind the radio.

When you installed the new H/U, did you use one of those plug-in wiring adapters or did you cut the wires & splice them together?

Even when I use a plug-in adapter, I solder the wires together & cover the connections with heat shrink tubing to prevent any loose connections or potential shorts.
A couple wraps of good electrical tape around each wire will help prevent shorts.

I think you need a wiring diagram for your radio to make sure you hooked all the wires correctly

No, not yet. Ended up not having enough time today so I'll try it tomorrow and let you know.

That would be awesome, but I would hate for you to have to do that.

Man, maybe it's the rum I'm drinking, but that just sounded WAY wrong! LMAO!

I'll take a look at the stereo tomorrow and if I can't figure it out I may take you up on this offer. Thanks a million!

did you get the plugs that plug in to the factory wiring? if so, its just match colors. If not, then you must have put a wire to wrong one
