Default Overhead Console Temperature Problem

Hey, I installed an Explorer's overhead console in by Ranger. Everything works great except my temperature reading is about 40 degrees Farenheit lower than what it actually is. (NO IT IS NOT SET ON CELSIUS)

I've tried 3 different new and used temp sensors and even plugged in an extra console but it read the same wrong temperature. I thought maybe the VSS wire was affecting it, but I disconnected it and it was the same problem. I don't know what could possibly be causing the temp to be that far off. It still fluctuates fine with the actual temperature changes; it's just 40 deg lower than it should be.

Any thoughts?!?!!?? Thanks!

A friend had the same problem. In putting the A-pilar molding on he had pinched the wires to the sensor. Replaced pinched section and problem fixed.

what are the colors on the wires attached to the temperature sensor?
[and, by this, I'm not asking if you hooked it up correctly -- i want to know the color of the wires actually coming out of the sensor itself]

Like Brian is asking it could be the senor is for the EATC
If you can tell us what the wire colors are on the sensor that would help

I think the EATC sensor has pink and black. The OHC sensor are white/blue and yellow/blue

...exactly, Myke. I don't remember the colors on the EATC sensor off the top of my head, but I know they're not White/Blue and Yellow/Blue. I suppose I could go look, but I don't want to tear apart the wire loom behind the grille to find out. ...especially not in the parking lot at work!! hahaha

Just checked EATC sensor is pink/black and red/orange

These are both OHC sensors notice the blue/white and blue/yellow wire

thanks for the suggestions so far. The wires coming from the temp sensor are blue/white & blue/yellow. The thought occured to me it could be pinched somewhere. I'll try yanking it all back out and see what I can find. I know it's not the A-pillar cause i hooked up the sensor directly to the wire stubs coming out of the console and it was still jacked. However the could be tied up somewhere up above the head liner. Or, yes, it could just be the sexy green. I'll let you know.

Are you positive you connected the wires right. I know some people have connected the wires they ran backwards.

Still at a loss for what's causing this. I double checked that my blue/white and blue/yellow wires were matched up correctly to the temp sensor. I also took down the headliner and checked all my wire for hang ups, shorts, or pinches and still show a temperature 40 degrees lower than it should be. This is a maddening problem. I've checked everything and even tried another console with the same problem. Surely I don't have two bad consoles??

I don't want to give up on it yet.... Anyone else got any suggestions?

I suppose Ford wouldn't want to look at it since it's a custom job.

It works based on resistance. Something is wrong between the console and the sensor. Check and replace all the wiring and connectors. Something is bad.

if the temperature is lower, you have a point of high resistance somewhere. ohm out your wires.

I bought an overhead console and this was accompanied by the first sensor (top) to install. Wire: Pink / black and orange / red. Is that correct?
If correct, you know where the power cord and the return wire? I bought a new sensor and do not want to burn it.
Wire: Pink/black and orange/red.
I appreciate any help.

Did you tap the vehicle speed sensor wire, IE: Make sure you tapped the correct one?
