Default Seats in bed?

My truck is a std cab, so it only seats two and I want to have some more seats for friends. what would be the easist and cheapest way to install one or two seats in the bed? I was thinking of either bolting a bench seat in or putting a couple jumpseats. My buddy says I should go out and buy a carpet kit and have that installed. I have a tonno cover aswell. Im not sure what the law in CA is regarding people in the bed of a pickup w/ a shell in the back. I have n idea which would be best.

Any and all thoughts are welcome

Don't do it unsafe
I think the national law is people have to be sitting on the bed of the truck. You can't be sitting on anything.

Just imagine if u rolled it and they were seatbelted in the bed.

There is no such law. Each state's motor vehicle laws differ with respect to carrying people in the open bed. You will have to look into your own state's laws.

With that said, it is not a good idea unless we're talking <30mph where you have little to no chance of being in a wreck.

I am pretty sure that it also varies by county too. I know that out in rural Missouri counties it's okay to have people in beds as long as your not on an interstate. However, in St. Louis city or surrounding counties, it's just about illegal anywhere you go. I know I've been followed by State Troopers when I had a buddy sittting in the back. He pulled me over and just told me that he was making sure I wasn't going on the Interstate with the guy.

IMO I would never put seats back there. It's just way too dangerous to have people back there if you're planning on doing anything over 35mph.

And there you have it. The OP is in Kaleeforneea. So the answer is pretty much "NO". You would have to have a "federally approved restraint system" in the bed of the truck, which we do not have. Unless you're going to build a seating and restrain system that complies with FMVSS Standards, you're screwed. The only exception is on farm land or the road within one mile of your farm land.
