Default Gauge Cluster Swap For 05'

I did some reading and searchin on FRF, but I wanted to get a confirmation or some guidance on doing a gauge swap. I read somewhere on here that is needs to be the same year as my truck and same type (2-wheel or 4-wheel drive), is this info correct? I currently have the black gauges that are found in the FX4s with a model number of 5L54 10849 AH. I already had a white gauge cluster from a 07 and tried to put in my truck but once I did it, it wouldn't give my mileage reading and the lights on the cluster would blink and act crazy so I just janked it out and put the old one in for now. If anyone would like to chime in, please do so... The reason I want to convert over to white gauges is because during the day with my 5% tint, it is hard on my eyes to read the gauges. Not at night though, because the lights are on, haha...

So Mykhael, as long as I use a white cluster out of the same year as mine, I should be good to go? I ask because the 07 cluster I tried wouldn't work. My truck is a 05.

I dunno why the 07 wouldn't work. I have put in a 04 and 07 in my 2005. Everything worked.

There could have been something up with that cluster. If anything, there may be a small wiring difference, as in criss crossed terminals. Sometimes Ford will add/drop features, change the wiring around to accept that.

Okay I took some pics of the two cluster backside to make a comparision and there is a difference let me upload them for you, check it out, picture on top is my factory cluster:

If you look at where the 4 bulbs are in the middle of my factory cluster, then look at the white gauges backside and you will see only 3 bulbs. I dont know if this makes a difference or not, but they aren't identical. Don't pay attention to the 3rd bulb removed from the white cluster, I had to take it out to put in my black gauges because I had a bulb burn out on me...

That would just be a warning light. Is the newer one from a 4wd truck?

I know on some they have the 4wd spot even if the truck is 2wd. Cheaper to make just one gauge then separate ones

He said it was from a 2-wheel drive truck. But its okay, I'm going to give it one more shot. I bought a actual white guage from a 05 model truck with the part number 5L54-10849 CH. I figured since my cluster part number had a H in it, that I needed to look for one with the same.

I am right there with you I have a seemingly the same set of clusters I tried to do the swap with and nothing works cept for the turnsignals and the theft light. One is white I bought from a fellow FRF'r and the other is the original all black model from my truck. When I have time I'll trace the wiring(foils) right now the only diff is that the white one has china stamped on the ODO motor, the other has no markings.
