Default Spray on sound deadening in doors

I will be using a mat for the inner most door surface (just behind the panel) and am considering doing the outer skin as well. While it wouldn't be TOO hard to reach in and install the mat, it would be much easier to use a spray on product. Anyone have experience in this area? Is it worth the effort (of course there is no turning back) or should I stick with the mat?

Thanks for your help.

It will work, just be careful around wiring and moving parts. Remember, that shit really expands a lot.

What spray on are you looking at and what mat? I'm planning to do the sound deadening in my truck with B-Quite but still considering other options.

I have read about the poor man's alternative - rolled roofing products at Lowe's and am going to give it a test on one door. The products made specifically for sound are way out of my budget and for what my goals are. I was chatting with a coworker yesterday that used to install sound systems professionally and has done quite a bit of Dynamat work. He suggested that I do as much of the door skin as possible with a mat and then use a spray on product to "fill in the gaps" if I can't get it all. I was thinking about a bed liner type spray on - just something that goes on thick that will deaden the metal.

Like you I think that the sound material is way too expensive... I looked a quickroof but at $1.31 a square ft but thinking I'll go Bquite at $1.40 square ft because it's a car product. That said it might be exactly the same thing and I've heard good things on the roofing materials.

While a bed liner material will help kill sound I don't know how well as it's extremely hard and inflexible so it could transmit sound rather than absorb it.

Don't put spray stuff in the door. It's a huge mess and is a waste of money. Just go get a roll of "Seal and Peel" from Lowes

IDK If "Quick Roof" is the same as Peel and Seal but P&S worked great for me. Not to mention I did my front doors and a few spots on my back wall for $20.

Thank you. I was wondering if it would be more trouble (or mess) than it was worth. I'll just take my time with the rolls.

I had both of my front doors done in about 2 hours. It would have probably gone faster if I would have had a roller to smooth it all out instead of using a roll of duct tape..
