Default OHC install clarification

Lets see if I can get this right. On the OHC Other than the sensor(maybe not) why cant you hook up a wire to everything and hook it to something thats hot when the key is on? Or are you just trying to match color codes together. I am not by any stretch of the imagination an electrical genius, but it seems that all you need is power to the console. The console doesnt care where the power comes from does it? I am just a bit confused about that. Seems a bit too much wiring to make it work. I may be wrong . If so I apologize but just not sure if its the was to go. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

If you hook it up just to the key switch, everytime you turn the truck on the OHC lights will be on

U hook the power wire to a switched 12v generally the radio power wire. So when the key is turned on or to accessory it comes on

I understand what you are saying But can you hook all the components to one spot instaed of looking for the coded wires . Such as the radio power or wipers or cigarette lighter or something like that. I know if I hook it to the switch it will be on all the time . I will want to hook it up to something different. You are saying I can hook it up to ONE hot wire?
Is there a power wire to the whole console or to each component?

U have 1 main power which goes to a 12v switched source
the lights have to goto dome light so they come on together.
Other wires have specific wires for a reasson like the vss wire.

the other wires go to specific locations in order for the OHC to work correctly.

I checked with my cousin last night. He has a shop in which he restores cars and builds engines for Joe Gibbs Racing He looked at the instructions you guys have on the install and he said the VSS gets its power thru the GEM and must be hooked up there ,the temp semsor gets its power thru the main power on the console. Light dimmer is an option if you want a dimmer you should hook it up if not dont. All the other issues can be hooked up to power anywhere you want as long as it is protected by the switch. He suggested an inline fuse as well for the power wire.

Correct about the VSS wire and the GEM
However in 2004 they do not have the GEM behind the radio so you have to find the VSS wire which is in a bundle of wires by the e-brake pedal

I dont see why you would add a fuse to the power wire if you just connect it to the power wire on the radio.
