about the rubber coating- Make sure you remove it all. Everytime I look at radio bezels at the local junkyard, the ruber coating is peeling off. For me, it came off easily, and where it didn't I sanded it off with 800 grit sand paper.

As for paint-
Krylon fusion works great. For me, I would let it dry 2-3 days before you put it back in your truck.
Another option is to spray an adhesion promoter, and then base caot and clear coat. Your local auto store probably caries dupli-color adhesion promoters, and base coat clear coat. I have some of my interior done with this, and some with krylon fusion black.

Another thing people do- Don't start painting anything flexible with krylon fusion, espessially the door arm rests. Krylon fusion doesn't stick to this stuff. Only paint the hard plastic stuff like the bezel, door panels, kick panel, ect.

Krylon fusion has adhesion promoter in it so it is not necessary

Also I have painted the door trim on my truck with krylon fusion and it has held up very well

So you just twist them off and push them back on or twist it back on
the threaded part you see on the end is what holds it on. the rest is like a sleeve. if i had a camera that worked with me I'd post pics.
twist it off just like a 5/16ths nut on a blot and when you go to put it back in just hand tighten it has never came loose on mine and I've changed bezels at least 3 times already i paint one and change one out

You can peel the rubber off

Or lightly sand it before paint
