NEW Air Bags!!!
So I took my truck off into a mud hole and wouldn't you know it...went 60 into a 4 foot rut and my bags diploid. Now I'm 17 and work part time and would like some insight on how and where I could find the cheapest and easiest way to replace and fix them. Thanks guys...and I'll put some pics up here of the aftermath...the front left wheel came off too.

I had thought airbags were something you have to let the pros do. Even if it's not, you really want to make sure it's done right.

Well in that case I at least recommend letting a pro pack your parachute if you go skydiving.

Ya dont ever pack your own parachute.
To replace the airbags just pull the battery cables off and your safe

my airbags deployed a few years ago, and i am just not getting around to having them replaced. I was gonna do it myself, but i want to make sure it was done right. as far as installing new bags, it is easy. the driver side bag is just two small screws. I didnt want to do that though cuz i wanted to make sure i didnt get an accidential deployment due to a bad sensor or module. I found a mechanic who has the equipment to analyze the system, and I am gonna get him to do it for me. He said bags from another truck will be ok, but you gotta get the module too. I paid $200 for the bags and module from the junk yard, and i am getting the guy to do it for me for about $200, depending on which sensors, if any, also need to be replaced. I think I am getting a great deal on this compared to the thousands it would cost at a dealership. This guy worked as a ford tech for 20 years so i am gonna take his word for it. And i am happy to know he can scan the system and actually see what is going on with it rather than me doing it and hoping the things dont deploy for no reason.
BTW, if your airbag light is on, it means the system needs attention. I learned this the hard way. In the middle of rush hour traffic. Going about 2mph.

one more thing, if safety isnt the priority, and you just want them there for aesthetic reasons, look and see if you can find replacement covers on ebay or elsewhere on the internet. I tried after mine deployed but didnt have any luck.

will deployed airbags make my truck not pass inspection?
Hi! My husband was on his way to work this summer and was rear ended, which made him hit the truck in front of him. The truck has little damage except the airbags deployed and also made the driver seat belt not work. The jerk that caused the accident took off because he didn't have insurance and we only have liability (I know! I know! Shoulda had full coverage!)
The truck is driveable but, it is up for inspection by end of January 2010. If he just replace the covers without replacing airbags and light is on...Will that keep the truck from passing inspection? I know he needs to fix the seat belt..just concerned about the airbags! Thanks in advance for any and all responses!

how fast into a how deep of a hole? wow.......how old? ohhhhh...makes sense...
Not clicking that pass bag off sucks now don't it? When mine popped just driving a little too fast(MAYBE 30) and hit a pot hole on a sideroad, only the driver side popped thankfully. You should have that pass bag switch off unless you've got a passenger.

Had to do the same thing to my 96 ranger xlt... my cousin had a 96 "parts" ranger that hadn't been in a collision which i took the airbag and front sensors off of ( i replaced the sensors just to be safe... they are supposed to reset themselves). disconnect the battery... take out the fuses that control the airbag (in my 96'... 1 in the cab and one under the hood)... take out the old airbag... check the connection wires for the airbag (sometimes they melt durring deployment)... NEVER TEST THE NEW AIRBAG WITH A CURRENT TESTER... 0.06 amps is enough to set one off... hook up the new airbag... clear the cab of any tools/ debris... put the fuses bag in... hook up the battery... i turned the key form the passenger side to be safe... check airbag deployment light on gauge cluster... should illuminate for 3-5 seconds then turn off.... remember: you are doing this at your own risk... i am not a professional installer... just told everything i did to replace my airbag...
