Here is a picture of the back side so you can see where the bulbs go.
Drop me a PM, I have plug-in led's for them.
The dealer is trying to pull a fast one on you, those little bulbs will come out of the sockets, you just have to be careful & persistent.
I can get you an entire set for your cluster & hvac for about... maybe less than they want for one.

Www.superbrightLEDs.com if you go to the [site index] tab at The top they have a "find bulbs that for your truck. Also by The way, the dome light and hood light are the same size as wells as the cluster kit bulbs (t10 base part #194) are the same size as the liscense plate bulbs. Keepin that in mind when ordering bulbs.

Angry Re: I can't the right instrument cluster bulbs!!

I am sorry to restart this old thread, but I am having the same issues. I would've figured the lights to replace on my 04 would be the 194s. They were smaller, a lot smaller! I have purchased 74s(I think), but those are still too big! Help!?

74 should be the right size. In what way is it too big?

Hi curious since I just replaced mine in a 2002 with 194's....

OP and BTeem both have 2004's. Neither have posted pictures.

Are they talking about the illumination bulbs or individual indicator bulbs OR did Ford switch it up some time in 2004 and distribute a bunch of clusters with different bulbs?

In 2004 Rangers got a new instrument cluster. It kept the same styling from 04 to 2011 with changes here and there. It has 6 or 7 bulbs total depending on the year(the same size as the tiny lights in your 02, not your illumination lighting). I believe 4 of these lights are for illumination of the gauges, while 3 (2 on some years because one changed to LED) light up the top "row" of dummy lights.

I would attach a picture but I just put the clusters into storage.

It seems they used some different bulbs here. My 2004 XLT 4WD has the type of bulb that will not pull out of the socket. It is a bit different from the one pictured above. Autozone and Orielly's have no listing for my model year. I ordered some from Amazom ,Partsam brand. They do not fit ! Listed as a T 10 bulb.I am wondering if its a T5 ? The large O.D. of the socket is .490 on my truck.

This looks like an older post. I too was looking for dash board replacement bulbs. I thank you all for the info. This I what I found. First let me be clear, this information is for a 1997 Ford Ranger XLT 5 speed manual 2WD Standard Cab with 1 option, Air-conditioning.

In the instrument cluster you'll find 2 types of bulbs:
Back light Sylvania 194 14v 3.8w (I found 6) larger Bulbs in black socket.
Idiot lights Sylvania 37 14v 1.3w (I found 11) Smaller Bulbs in gray socket.

In the HVAC cluster you'll find 1 type of bulb:
Back light Sylvania 161 14v 2.7w (I found 2) large bulbs in black socket. 161 are the same size as the 194, they have different ratings which will effect brightness and temperature.

In the Head Light switch assembly I found it on a stalk:
Back light F87Z-13B765-DA (Note: the '97 has a blue filter on it, this part number shows a green filter).

Since this was all about instrument lights I did not research ash tray, glove box, dome or curtesy lighting. I chose to keep with the incandescent lighting because I am unsure of LED lightings ability to dim properly, heat emission and brightness.
