Does the heating and air controls use the 194 bulbs? or are they different?

Depends on the year of the truck... my 96 uses T10 bulbs but 01's use a smaller #74 bulb (I believe)

Re: I can't the right instrument cluster bulbs!!
So I took everything apart again today and removed the bulb once again. All bulbs looked good which leads me to think theirs a busted fuse?
Here is a picture I took of the bulb!

Re: I can't the right instrument cluster bulbs!!
Did you test the bulb with a battery to make sure it's good? I've seen several that are all black & crappy but work fine, likewise I've had brand new looking bulbs that were shot.
By the looks of your pic, that may be one of the T5 base bulbs (I forget the bulb #).

Re: I can't the right instrument cluster bulbs!!
I keep a 9v battery in my toolbox for just such an occasion.
I've got a bunch of the t10 base bulbs for the holders like this:
That one is from my cluster/hvac.

Re: I can't the right instrument cluster bulbs!!
He is right I just tried to change all my bulbs and they DO NOT pull out of the socket, they are one piece unit. A 194 is too big to fit, so my question is what is the correct bulb number for these. I bought some 194's on Ebay as suggested by other members, but they are the wrong size bulb. Mine are tiny bulbs that are recessed into the back of the instrument cluster and need a pair of needlenosed pliers to get out. You can't just turn them out by hand. Please help as I want to convert my oem to LEd's. I own a 2005 FX4 4.0L Automatic

Re: I can't the right instrument cluster bulbs!!
I changed the ones in my '04 with 194's by just pulling them out of the holder(gently) with a pair of pliers. the 194 is a little bigger and its a snug fit but it works, I promise.

On my 99 mine just pulled out easy. Just like the license plate lights. 194LL

Re: I can't the right instrument cluster bulbs!!
Thanks guys but these require me to replace the whole bulb and socket as one part. I am very frustrated by this dealer wants 28 bucks for one but they cant tell me what their number is compatible with in a non oem bulb. Anywhere i can go to get aftermarket LEDS???
Here is a picture of the back side so you can see where the bulbs go.

Re: I can't the right instrument cluster bulbs!!
The correct light(bulbs) are a #74. You can as I just did, buy them from Superbrightleds.com. They are the twist lock bulbs. Here is the url for the lights.

Re: I can't the right instrument cluster bulbs!!
I have a 2003 Ranger and can't find out how many of which kind of bulbs I need for the instrument cluster. There appear to be two kinds/sizes of bulbs. Anyone know how many and which numbers? Thanks.
