Rear View Mirror - Will this work?
For Christmas my brother bought me a new rear view mirror for the truck. I want temp and compass features but I don't want an OHC. He found this mirror (supposedly out of an Explorer but I don't know how he knows that/why he thinks that) so I'm hoping you guys can tell me (a) if it has the features I want and (b) if it'll work with the truck. According to my bro there's a wiring harness from Ford that I need to buy for it but my main concern before getting started is if it has temp.... I can see the *F and *C in the display box so can I trust that? Any help would be great.... Thanks!
(that button at the end is the compass button)
Here's the plug:
This is the best picture I could get of the part number:
The model number appears like this:
ZTVHL3
905-0798

Re: Rear View Mirror - Will this work?
looks like it is the home link mirror. if you have all the wires it should work.

google the ZTVHL3 number - looks like its for a Handi

If you have the wire harness to plug in the back of it, all you have to do is identify what wire is what, then connect it all like an ohc. Get a wire diagram for your radio and GEM to identify each wire and you should be able to figure out what you need to tap into

Re: Rear View Mirror - Will this work?
Oh...That may be a tough thing to find. My best suggestion would be to pm buggman a pic of where the wire harness goes, see if he can mod something for you but you will need to identify each pin in the mirror so it will work

Re: Rear View Mirror - Will this work?
This might just be the solution to my issue too! I want temp and dont want the OHC as well. I REALLY hope you get this working so can start hunting for one! The home link feature would be great too!

Re: Rear View Mirror - Will this work?
That's an awesome gift... if it has temp the mirror is the GenK50/51A made by Gentex who is the marker of all the high end mirror for almost every car manufacture. http://www.gentex.com/automotive.html
They don't sell the mirrors directly but you can buy them from Mito corp http://www.mitocorp.com/homelink-aut...g-mirrors.html
They might be a source to buy just the harness as you have the mirror
As well this mirror is a dealer installed option for the Ranger so your local Ford deal might also be a source to buy the harness only.
As well the mirror is available online all over so a few emails might find someone who can sell the harness only
http://shop.autodimmingmirrors.com/products-genk51a.asp
Once you find a harness here's the how to for the way to install it in your Ranger

Re: Rear View Mirror - Will this work?
If you need a hand with the install let me know, I just finished installing a similar set up on my moms escape, for that mirror you should need the harness then it should be a 4 wire hook up.
track down a pig tail for the mirror and you should be dialed.

Re: Rear View Mirror - Will this work?
If you haven't found it yet here's the wiring harness you need for the mirror
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Gente...Q5fAccessories
You have to connect him to get price for the temp sensor but the harness seems reasonable to me. I bought my mirror from them off ebay last night at 2am and it's already in the mail this morning so good first impression.

Re: Rear View Mirror - Will this work?
Old thread bump 'cause I can...... after sitting on what is apparently the wrong wiring harness for like a year or more I finally did the research and found the RIGHT harness... PM sent do the ebay seller and hoping to buy this weekend.... might have this baby installed (properly) soon... I've had it in the truck for about 6 months but I'm ready to get it wired.... haha
