I just don't... I only want the compass/temp features so I don't see a point in going through that extensive install when this mirror does the same thing. Also the mirror has programmable garage door openers so if I ever get to put this girl in a garage that'll be nice to have without having to carry around an opener that can be (and has been) stolen out of my truck, and in the mean time it's not taking up extra space while I'm not using it.

I wasn't really looking... my bro bought me a harness awhile back but I never really dug in and installed it... decided I want to get it done and realized the harness he bought is only for the compass feature so I found one today that has the temp sensor too.

That will be nice. I've installed a few mirrors like that in my dad's car and girlfriends car over that past month. I live them alot better than the ohc. If I have to do it again, I would just install one of those mirrors.

I've got an overhead console and this mirror. I wanted the long ohc for look and storage and the mirror for all it's features that you don't get with the OHC.

I wanted the exterior temp, 3xhomelink, autodiming and compass. Here's what I liked once installed

The first plus I didn't expect was the mirror is slightly larger and slightly different shape than my stock was and that small diff makes a big difference in the view to the back. The stock mirror I was always adjusting left and right and this one no prob.

The next unexpected plus for me was the autodimming I thought it would be good but I'm suprised how much I like it in actual use

I wanted it for the exterior temp and homelink and I'm happy both work as expected. The homelink is very simple and the temp is accurate but was rising quickly 2-3 degrees if I was sitting still with the truck running... I took a look at the where I put the sensor and it was near/over the fog light so I moved it over so the heat rising off the light wouldn't affect it as much when sitting and it's more stable now increasing only one degree sometimes which I'd consider normal.

Overall I'm very happy with the upgrade and I'd recommend to anyone that's thinking of doing it. It's all on the plus side except the cost as it's pretty pricey but I considered it a long term thing as I'll move it to any vehicle I but in the future.

Here's the thread I originally posted some of this in... http://www.fordrangerforum.com/inter...r-genk51a.html

So you have your overhead console temperature inside the truck to read cab temperature?

I just don't need the extra storage... I've been using the mirror for 6 months now but it's not connected to anything so none of the features work. I need to order the wiring harness soon so I can get her running

Mine is the only LONG overhead console I've seen in our trucks. It's got two storage bins, 2 map lights and no compass / temp.

Here's a pic before I put the mirror in

Food for thought on the Homelink part of the mirror, you can wire it to operate with or without the key on. On any of my vehicles that could possibly sit outside overnight, I wired it to work only with the key on. I hated the idea of somebody breaking into my vehicle and being able to just push a button to gain access to my garage.

+1 I've got mine wired that you need the truck on or acc position for the opener to work. This isn't how the instructions that came with the mirror tell you to do it.

Are our mirrors wedge mount or cam lock mount? Are all years the same, I'm thinking about doing this same type of install.
