Re: Seats that fit in the Ranger
Just to elaborate, the Ranger's seat belt receiver (at least in 2004) has a wiring harness that has 4 pins. The Explorer receiver (at least in 1999) has a harness with only 2 pins.
I tried all sorts of configurations for wiring the 4 wires into 2. I could get the seat belt light to extinguish when the buckle was engaged, but I could not get past the airbag fault light (the light will blink for the first few minutes, and then stay illuminated).
The extra two wires in the Ranger seat are connected to a metal cylinder that contains a small explosive charge (with warning stickers all over it). I believe the function of the cylinder is to somehow tighten the receiver in the event of a collision. If someone were sufficiently motivated, I would wager the airbag light could be cleared by installing a resistor to mimic the presence of that cylinder- but it's just easier to swap the receivers.
If someone knows exactly how that metal cylinder works, I would be really interested in hearing the explanation. I've never seen anything like it.

Re: Seats that fit in the Ranger
Probably a stupid question but would these rear 60/40 explorer seats fit in the front of my 60/40 96 Ranger? Can't beat the $75 price for new.

Re: Seats that fit in the Ranger
Fellas,
My 02 xl has the standard base model seats. Has anyone done a seat swap to the xlt seats with center console? I imagine they can just direct swap but I haven't messed with my seats judging by how rusty and torqued on those brackets look..

Direct swap, but remember:
Reg cab seats bolt into only reg cabs
Ext. cab seats bolt only into Ext. cabs.

Re: Seats that fit in the Ranger
07 Fx4 Level 2 black leather buckets in my 06 regular cab, had to grind the rear feet from the tracks and weld the feet from my factory seats onto the fx4 ones, had no issues with the seat belts, had to re wire a bit for the air bag plug in but otherwise it really wasn't that bad

Just noticed your truck has a 07+ steering wheel/airbag setup. Did you add that in yourself?

Maybe I am wrong, 04-06 Mazdas and Rangers are on the airbag recall so I thought the Mazda bags would look similar to the Ford ones but I can't find any photos of one.
Guess I just know Fords better than Mazdas

Re: Seats that fit in the Ranger
Based on this thread I picked up some '87 Thunderbird Turbo Coup seats. They are NOT direct bolt-in. I had to grind out all the rivets in the seat brackets and take them apart so that I just had the mounting base part. Then I had to drill some holes to attach the brackets to the seat bottoms. The result is good though.

Re: Seats that fit in the Ranger
I installed 07 STX EXT cab 40/40 bucket seats in my 08 XL STD cab (60/40 seats) truck. I had to switch out the tracks. The lumber support cord from the driver side of the 07 got cut (at the end I realize it didn't need to be). I sat in the seat and adjusted before cutting. I cut it because I didn't know I could just take off the tracks at the time. There are 8 nuts that hold the frame to the tracks. Once I removed the bolts from both frames, the tracks separated. No cutting 60 frame or drilling new holes. I went the long route getting to the tracks because I didn't know any better and this thread emphasized EXT only fits in EXT. I continue to look at it and unbolting things until I realized it can all be unbolted and put back together. I lost my manual so I wasn't able to get much help. I got scared because I read this thread afterwards and realized they may not fit. THEY FIT. I will upload pictures when I get home. My log has the pictures.

Wow!!
Those look great. I cant find 1982-1988, Thunderbird seats anywhere. Im in lower NY State. Salvage yards around here dont have much. Especially older cars, due to new laws passed in 2002.
I have a 1993 extended cab
I really would love to try a full set of seats from an '05 Sable.
I like the idea of the seperate center jump seat that can flip to a cup holder / arm rest.
But i only ever see them for sale on ebay an to get them hear ide have to spend almost $1200, which is ridiculous.
I really want separate headrests & centre seat.

Re: Seats that fit in the Ranger
Dodge neon Fatboy seats work but do not go forward. I had to use flat steel to make the ranger bottoms fit on the seats. They are a lot more comfortable than the 60/40 stock were. I had to paint the explorer center console. I have had it for a good 10 years. Lol. I could not find cheap buckets anywhere. Then I found these for free. I have a 94 regular cab. Not a big problem not folding forward, I can live with it.
