I'm using the Cobra 29 LTD, "tuned and peaked" with a 4ft firestick.
this was in my big truck for a long time. I no longer drive big truck so I put it in the ranger.

Yes, the speaker will fit under the hood fine... What you should do, is go look for a thread about "hellas behind grille" and do the same thing, but with the speaker...

You need to mount your antenna in the middle of the vehicle for the best transmit signal or best ground plane effect. If you mount them on the back bumper you will be very directional and will not get out to the sides or rear very well. CB antenna needs to have something to reflect signal off of.

The best place to mount your antenna would be top dead center of your cab using a good quality base load antenna. Stay away from Radio Shack antennas, they are JUNK, IMHO.

Used to install CB's at a radio shop back in the day! Your radio is only as good as your antenna system!!!! If you use a ball type mount, use rg 8x stranded coax cable.

I currently run an Conex 3500 Hi power radio and have co-phased K-40 antennas on my 07 Peterbilt, which seem to work well for me.

Thats the one that I have.
Santa is supposed to give it to me if ya know what I mean
I'm anxious to get it in and hooked up to see what it sounds and looks like all light up.
I think I'm gonna go with a 5" firestick antenna to keep it in tune with the channels.

Glan... go back to that shop and tell them they do NOT know what they are talking about. Check with any old CB'er or old ham and they will tell you what I stated previously. Been there, done it, got the t shirt!!!

When buying a radio, stay away from the small cheapie units, they tend to have more engine noise and static than a more expensive unit with good noise suppression. The Cobra is a excellent choice and a good performer out of the box and is outstanding if its "peaked and tuned".

Another good investment is a good quality external speaker that you mount so that the sound is projected toward you. In my Pete, I have it mounted against the left side behind the door frame. My external speaker cost was well over $20, 7=8 years ago.

This is just my opinion based on 30 years of playing with CB's, so do as you wish.

Dave

lol

Did he say why? Imo You can install it wherever you want, as long as its got a good ground, who cares. Unless you plan to do hunts, the average cber will never notice the difference.
