Grab some 5/16's butyl tape for the rear window seal. It's an easy job.

you need to pull the jute padding off the bottom of the carpet. wash the carpet with a garden hose and some tide detergent and a little lysol. let it AIR dry. COMPLETELY! replace the padding with some new and put it back together. it is very important to let it dry completely. we do this for flood cars, milk, animal urine, etc. works very well. once there is that much water in the jute, there is no way to really get it out and it will stink.

I have a Taurus with the same issue. It has something to do with the drain in the cowl. Ford had a fix for the Taurus, they may have one for the Ranger. That might be a place to start instead of spending the time tearing apart the dash.

Well I just got my answer here. My HC was replaced earlier this year so I guess it's one of these other issues.

What's with the passenger side water issues?! My truck is going back to the dealer on Wednesday to hopefully deal with the leak above the doors where they meet, once and for all.

my dad's van was leaking water on the passenger floor. turned out all of the drains in the cowl were clogged up, the water was overflowing down into the blower motor housing and then out the floor vents onto the carpet. the water would seep out of the drains a couple hours after it stopped raining, which is why we never found it sooner!

A leaking heater core will make the interior smell awful. But it will be a coolant like awful. Open your radiator cap (on a cold engine!) and smell. If it smells like that, its your heater core. If it smells like mold and mildew or an unwashed locker room, it is probably not the heater core but a leaking windshield or back window.

Ok well it is deff. coolant then where does the coolant come from is it possible to run out of coolant because of this problem? I have a warranty but the heater core is not covered but if i can find a way where i could talk the company into covering it that would be awesome.

If it is coolant, it is your heater core leaking. Unfortunately replacing it is a real bitch and entails pulling most of the dashboard back to access it. Sure you can run out of coolant, but you have several gallons in there. Only you know how much has leaked. Add more if it is low.

If you don't need or care about having heat, you can bypass it for the time being. Disconnect the two hot water hoses under the hood where they are connected to the firewall. Use some kind of plumbing fitting to just connect the two hoses together with hose clamps. That way you will stop pumping coolant through the leaky heater core.

This however will not dry out the heater core's box which is soaked in coolant that has leaked out already. You can probably run the AC for a long time with the "heat" on full to help dry it out. And of course, clean the carpet and inside of the truck.

as of right now i will prob have to do that in 2 days it has run almost out. The Ford dealership that we took it to earlier this week told me it was mildew in the vents which really makes me mad because i knew that was not it. Now i need the core and to do a deodorizing on it replace the carpet and spend my 3 day weekend fixing the problem. I know this is a ford forum but damn should have gotten a bow tie.

Hang on. You're assuming it is the heater core only by smell, not by any liquid leaking into the cab? There is absolutely NO WAY that you lost several gallons of coolant in 2 days through a heater core leak without coolant spilling out into the cab. It is entirely possible the coolant was low to begin with the smell is indeed mildew. The odors are similar but not the same.

Try this. Put it on MAX AC, full speed, with the temp on full cold and run it for a good while. With those settings, the outside air intake is closed (inside air recirc only) and the heater box is closed. I bet the smell goes away. Then turn the temperature up. If smell comes back, its probably the heater core. If the smell doesn't come back, put it back to cold and switch it to normal AC. If the smell comes back, the problem is shit in the outside air intake!!
