Default loose interior dome light cover

I can't seem to get the dome light cover to stay attached. There's no screws so somehow I guessit snaps in. I don't *think* anything's broken on it so maybe there's a secret technique? of course when i removed it to change the bulb I noticed there was a cable tie inside so maybe the previous owner (mu uncle) did break it somehow :/

Replace it with a Explorer or Mustang dome light.

They are WAY better and are cheap.

X2 on the stang dome. Love mine and its easy to do. If its broke its a good opportunity to upgrade rather than spending money to replace the same thing.

In my 02 there were very thin plastic posts that snap in to hold the light in place. One time removing the cover, and the posts broke. Upgrade to the stang.

I broke mine a couple weeks ago and just got inside from putting my new mustang light in. I got it off ebay for $18 shipped.

I have a 96 Ranger with ext cab that I'm unable to get the cover off the dome light. I don't want to break it. What is the trick to getting it off without breaking it? Does it just snap on somehow?

I see a lot of recommendations to install a Mustang dome light assembly. Which years of Mustang dome lights are the ones to use?

Thanks, John

@skiwithme - I think mine may have already been broken since there was a cable tie inside holding it together (not sure how my uncle got that on from the outside!!)

I've never heard of the Mustang replacement trick until now. I think I'll scour the local parts lots for a Mustang dome from about 2000-2005 and hope for the best.

Just an fyi on the stang dome, I actually pulled mine out of an Aerostar van lol i guess some had that model dome in them. Some F150 years have them too. should be the same. So when your hitting the JY don't limit your search to mustangs you might get lucky and find one in something else

I finally had enough and just ripped mine off. Now it's broke but at least I was able to get the friggin moth out of it and the other light works now.
