I have just bought a 97 ford ranger 4x4 which needed work. I'm trying to fix the dead speedometer. I bought a new gauge cluster from a ford explorer, was told by the salvage yard that it will fit my truck. I plugged it in tonight and the speedomter now works!
The problem I noticed comparing the 2 is that the new gauge does not have 3 diodes on the back that my ranger gauge has. Also the explorer gauge has a fuel cap light which on my ranger is labeled as a check engine/wait to start light. Now my truck makes a constant beep beep noise when running and the fuel cap light stays on... which I dont even think it has a fuel cap sensor?? I should also mention I removed the light bulb to the seat belt light because on my old gauge it stayed on all the time and I really did not want to see it on there again after I got done! lol So I want to point that out if maybe it could be doing something. I for once was smart and tested the new gauge before putting the dash all back together so if it needs to come out it wont be too much.

These are the three diodes that are not on my new speedometer head. What are they for?
