Default lets talk sound deadening materials

i know its not for the ranger, but for the vdub, but if all goes well i will do it for the ranger, what do you think the best material is for sound deadening? dyanmat, fatmat, edead, etc? from what i have seen, the dynamat is the most expensive one out there, is it you get what you pay for? whats the deal

really they are relatively the same, some folks have suggested that a horrible smells exumes from certain name brands, IDK I would think the proper ventilation and time will erase that notion, I will say that yes dynamite is a well know brand, but it's because of that well known name that it is overpriced, Go with fatmat, thats what I did and their is no noise, and I'M SERIOUS, I drive a BMW and a MERCEDES and the noise reduction is similar to those 2 vehicles, I did the floor/rear wall below rear window/roof/door panels and behind both areas behind rear seats, their is not one single cab color you could see in my ranger if you were to strip the interior put.

No they are not & fatmat is a poor choice. I've done many installs like this as I do electronics and body/paint work 3 days a week.

Fatmat is "fatter" but it has less density. Your paying for size where density is what you want. Reducing the natural frequency to second order vibrations is the goal. Before I made my purchase I measured the natural frequency of many deadeners with an optic transducer linked to my oscilliscope. Dynamat extreme and Premium second skin scored nearly identical, far ahead of fatmat with a much lower natural frequency. I even recorded over-damping with notes where fatmat couldn't compare. (I spent 2 years in a masters program studying vibration & control for my physics minor.) I saw a comparison under extreme heat testing (I did not do this test) but fatmat failed there also.

Comparing a ranger to a Mercedes for NVH analysis is also a really poor analogy. The ranger is a loaf of bread moving down the highway, and the Mercedes is a NVH designed luxury vehicle.

I have multiple layers of second skin premium on my 04. I detrimmed everything inside the cab and deadened for a few weeks.

its coming along very slowly, of course every project goes slow when you have a very limited budget, turns out fastback parts are really hard to come by sometimes, but i did find some clear front turn signals for it

more then likely, in order to do a complete color change you have to strip everything out, and paint the interior also

Here is what I find interesting about your post, You state fatmat is a poor choice and that it does not stand up to the leading competition (dynamite), Lets say you're right for a moment, You still did not get my post, I clearly stated for the price and a better bang for your buck, it does a good job, Now I don't know how good dynamite works and quite frankly probably never will, But than again I stated that fatmat has totally eliminated most road noise for me and their is a huge and substantial difference,

I here individuals who have worked for many years in this or that industry; yet no-one ever seems to humble themselves enough to think outside the box approach to others experience, in lamans terms..."To each Their own" it works for me and since so many here on the board are on a budget; I think it's okay to assume not everyone will do dynamite,

Now budget is not a problem for me, it's part of the experience when modding our vehicles, I'm not taking from you; your work experience and proffession; but please lets not talk abut how long someone has been around and what I have done or do for a living, Please believe me You don't wont to go their as I have learned over the last 50 years that the old saying "CANT TEACH A OLD DOG NEW TRICK" does not apply to theory.

I have 2 european cars and know all too well how they handle and drive, I have never owned anything else in my life, SERIOUSLY.. until I got the ranger and decide to surprise my son who's in the Marines and following the footsteps like his old pops.. I have traveled many countries and road the "Autobahn" like I road most Thai women when I was in service, again "No" you can't compare a European vehicle to a Ford Ranger; I was comparing the sound quality which was pretty good in the ranger, not quite that of Europe vehicles but still pretty good.

Thats all I have to think of for now, until next time, go and make me some projectors will ya and stop battling me over who is the most handsome guy on the forumn, you know I am

I've Googled sound deadeners and read quite a bit on it, and some people have had luck with roofing materials from Home Depot and the like. I'm gonna try some Quickroof from Cofair products on the inside of my doors. If it turns out to be crap, then I'll use something better on the floors and over what's already in the doors.. If it's a epic fail then it'll be a cheap one at least.

we tore up the carpet of my dad's 65 beetle, and they used ceiling panels under the carpets
