Default 1998 - Replace turn indicator assy with airbag?

My turn assembly on my 1998 Ranger 4 cylinder stick shift has to be replaced. This vehicle does have an airbag and the Chiltons manual is vague (and the diagram is miniscule) as to whether I have to remove the steering column and airbag to replace the multiswitch. I have read a couple of threads here that relate to other models and the replacement on those seem simple, but in just about every other car I've ever seen, both have to come off. I'm pretty sure Ford wouldn't make it simple either.

Can I access, remove and replace this switch assembly without taking the airbag and steering wheel off?

Appreciate any experienced advice. Thx. ;=)

You don't have to remove the wheel or airbag. Just pull the covers off the column(three screws on the bottom side) and remove the torx bits holding it on and unplug it. So easy a caveman could do it!

Just remember to disconnect the battery while working on the column. It would really suck to have the air bag go off because of a short.
