Question dome light

Hi. I am a new to the ford ranger family here. I just traded in my 01 jeep wrangler for my 98 ranger xlt 5spd, 2.5l. I have a question. My dome light wont turn off on its own have I shut down, pull key, close the door. This is the 1st time. It's weird. It will go out on its own when I start to back up out of my driveway and go. But when I pull back in put it in 1st gear, set e-brake, get out and close the door it wont go out. I dont see a pins on the door frames. Is there a secret/trick for the light to turn off? I just ended up pulling the fuse out. Thank you again.

You could try spraying the switch with contact cleaner pushing the part that gets pushed in by the door in and out as you do. WD-40 being flammable isn't recommended for electrics. Worse case scenario the switch may need to be replaced.

um, kinda need to be educated. Um, where would the switch be?

only thing i did when i got it was I put new plugs wires in, which were BEAT!!!! But the light goes out when I driving, but the light "door agar" stays on. I know the 2 are connected, but dont know where/how.

Hey I was wrong, Clinton right about the location. The switch is attached to the door latch..not in the area of the hinges that mount the door..the other end of the door where the mechanism (latch) unlocks the door with the handle. Electrical contact cleaner followed with your silicone spray would be your best bet. Wipe any obvious dirt/grease of the latch and the pin it latches to on your rear door 1st I should have said.

One person thought this switch works by sensing a proper grounding when the door is closed properly. That's why dirt/grease could be the cause if they are right,..on the contact surfaces of the latch mechanism and the round pin part it latches to when the door is closed.

Even though it has been said already, I'm just gonna say when my ranger did this, i just took WD-40 to all of the door latches (back doors and front doors) and open/closed them about 5 times each. I have been good since.
