Default Stupid question about red light

My ranger is a 2000. There is this little box under the steering wheel with a red light thats always on. I asked the dealer that sold me the truck what it was and he, nor did anyone else in the dealership seem to know what it was for. Just wondering. Told ya it was a stupid question.

lol there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.

or was it.. er.. lol

Might be an anti-theft device, check and see if there's a company name on it. Could also be a remote starter system. Since you can start the truck fine, could mean that my first option would have been bypassed (or defective), but not unplugged.

Please update the thread so we can assist you further.

I have the same light. I cut the wires for it though when I pulled my dash the other day haha it doesn't do anything. It's just a light. Literally haha

I just removed the little red lights from my truck just under the steering wheel. They were attached to a small radio receiver which was wired into the starter circuit. Now how a thief will be put off by a little red light blinking it's heart out, totally baffles me. OTOH it could have been a remote start device. Now a thief could really use one of those.

The thief could be worried about a 2 way alarm system, or worse, a tracking device.

Either way, cut the wrong wire, the owner would know immediately.

Aren't you glad you asked before venturing?

lol

lol ^^^
anyhow i got the same lil box with a red light on it
mines a 2010
so when i bought my truck the dealer said it was useless unless i paid like $1500 extra to get this like "super special" ford alarm system installed... which of course wasnt worth it based on the fact that it would cost like $500 in any other alarm shop
