Changing Dome Light
My dome light is out and I haven't figured out how to change it. Everytime I try to remove the lens it feels as if I am going to rip the entire unit right off of the roof. Any suggestions?

Which domelight do you have? Most of the Ranger model ones just need a good yank on them, but others have a screw behind the lens.

2001 Ranger extended cab, have tried pulling it off but light starts to pull away from roof. I am not with the truck right now but don't remember seeing any screws in lens. Thanks for any help you can give me with this.

Do you have the round one with map lights or the flatter rectangular one with no switches at all? The flat rectangular one just needs a good yank on it IIRC. I took mine out and put a mustang dome light in its place.

If the ruptured disc in my back allows me, I'm going to go out and look at my dome light today and see what's up. I don't know if we have the same one or not - mine has no map lights and no switch to even shut the damn thing off. I hate it with a passion and I really want to replace it. I know a lot of people swap theirs out, often with a Mustang light, but if it requires any wiring, it's not worth it to me..... any comments on the 'Stang light, Justin?

I never tried pulling on my one with map lights, I did replace the flat rectangular waste of space one in my 05 just by pulling it.
For 04+ Rangers you have to run one wire. I hate wiring and this was just to easy. You run the wire through the headliner down the driver's side pillar into the area behind the panel you can only access when the door is open and tap into the constant power source there. I would have to look and see what color it is.

Re: Changing Dome Light
RangerJustin,
Just curious man, if you remember what color the constant power wire is, I was tinkering around in my '07 today thinking about installing the Mustang dome light with map lights, but in the *How-To* it mentioned an orange/green wire that needs to be tapped into.
I dont seem to have that wire on the driver's side below the pillar. So I'm rather stumped. Any help/advice you could lend; would be greatly appreciated.
