Removing interior trim retainers
Trim retainers push into a plastic fitting or a hole in the body metal.
The retainers push in easily but can be very difficult to remove. At least
they were on my 1993 Ranger.
This method uses finesse rather than brute force, and avoids marring the trim.
Tools needed: small hammer, a nail set or small drift, diagonal cut pliers
Insinuate the blades of the cutting pliers behind the head of the trim retainer
and snip the head off. Use the drift and hammer to tap the stem of the trim retainer
out of its hole. It will drop somewhere into the truck body.
To finish, position the trim and push in a new trim retainer.
Much easier than trying to pry out the retainer with a retainer tool!
