Default 60/40 seat into a bucket

I want to make my 60/40 seat into a bucket. I don't want to buy another one as it would be pricey so I want to cut the middle seat and put in a center console I have now. I plan on putting seat covers later on. How many of you guys have done this and what kinds of tools do you use? Also what screws are used for the center console as I have the mounting bracket but no screws. The console I have is the common black short console with the two cup holders and the coin mounter. Pics would be great!

i did mine, i bought my seat covers on walmart for 19.99 each, then i bough a short center console from a explorer 99, i cut the middle seat just close enough on the line between main seat and middle seat using the dual saw, the one saw on tv, it cuts that baby like butter, the i tucked the remaining foam and ducked tape it lol, hehe one piece of advice, before you affix the center console, make sure both seats move freely, this is my mistake, the driver side is too close to the center console,so its a bitch to move and back and forth, the only thing is im the only one driving this so no problem at all hope that helps,

Ive got the 60/40 transfered to buckets. The guy at my shop had to weld the brackets and he recovered the seats. I dont think it was that hard but some welding was done and it turned out great. Ill post some pictures by this weekend. My dilema is where do I get a stock console for an explorer from? And does it fit? Any help would be great.

I'd say best bet is a junkyard or check the classified section. I've seen lots of guys put in the explorer console in the rangers and they look good.

98-03 guys can do a bucket conversion on the driver's seat without any cutting or welding. just need another passenger seat bottom. it'll bolt right onto the driver's side.

I just did this yesterday. No pics because the seats are being reapholstered and not with me...But just used a cut off tool and cut the middle off and the little bracket that the armrest/center console thing attaches to.

That's what I need to use to cut off the middle part?

yup i used a sawzall to do mine. made quick work of it. just be careful of and do something about the razor sharp edges it will make on the metal!

and SHIT i never knew the bottom portion of a passenger seat would work with the top half of a drivers seat!

its way easier to cut the seat with this, and then use a die-grinder to smooth out the edges, i used a fish filet knife to cut my foam and a razor blade to cut the fabric at the stitches, i secured the console with two self tapping screws, here's some pics

Great tip, might have saved me a big ass headache if I can find another seat bottom that matches
