What would be some necessary steps for doing this conversion for my ranger. I’m not a huge fan of a 5.0L conversion. I’m open for any help on how to start this. I have rebuilt a Ford Explorer motor before so it would be fairly simple to understand somethings about the engine modifications.

I think I would follow what Freiberger and Finnegan did with the Rotsun on Roadkill (Motortrend TV) and just turbocharge it. Grab a turbo from nearly anywhere, convert it over to a blow-through carb set-up with a hat, then add a cheap boost signaled timing controller. Their turbo'd Chevy V6 (using a 7.3L ford truck turbo) made almost 400HP, and then they swapped it out for a fox body 5.0 and threw the same turbo setup on that and made over 500 lb*ft of TQ to the rear wheels. There was also an episode of Engine Masters that featured that motor where they explained it in a little bit more detail how to build it too. That's def on my list of future upgrades to my 4.0L (I just don't think my motor has enough life in it to handle boost without a half decent rebuild first)
