Sorry didn't mean to steal anyones thread.
Plug in LED's are worthless compared to the LED you solder in

Yes you have to remove needles to take of the green stuff,

Replacing needles correctly is simple FX4wannabe01 can show you how to do it with a battery so the speed and such is correct

Okay hows this: I sand off the green from the back of the face. Next I go to Michaels and get some blue glass paint or whatever they used to paint the Hvac stuff and do that to my cluster. Next get High SMD white LEDs instead of blue and put it all together. What do you think about that idea? Because I am only working with one hand and I have a little experience with soldering. So help me out here lol.

Someone has done that and it looked decent.

I did that also with a spare cluster I have and it looked decent. I could have tried harder but didnt so if you are patient and try hard it will look good.

Get plaid brand paint

Yes, now that looks nice and I do have the patience, I'm getting paid to stay home so more free time (Workers Compensation). And my faceplate is black, so just the numbers light up right? It's a dumb question but I just took my meds and kind of confuse here yea I think so the numbers light up lol. Okay so plaid paint, red and blue, and white LEDs or just do all blue paint and Blue LEDs?

Why would you buy white LEDs to put it behind a gauge that has been painted any color - why not just buy the specific LED which has the color you want?

That's what I did.

Look ma! no hotspots!

Okay so Red and Blue and white LEDs? Now are they decent at night time as in the brightness? Would you happen to have a picture of it?

Yea I don't think I would be able to solder. But once I do this can it be reversed so when I my finger does heal I can start soldering? Or what? And I want to paint the numbers up to 4 blue. 5 and 6 red same with the rpm. and same with fuel oil temp and battery (One part blue one part red). So you think I would have to go with white LEDs? Just do a good job like you said painting the faces.

Oh and the needles too. Sand them off and paint blue if I want them to glow blue? Is that how it works. Oh and I do appreciate all the help and advice your giving me thank you.

Bulbs and LEDs (i'm talking about plugin LEDs) shine in completely different ways. The direction of light output is not at all the same. If you use plugins you will get hotspots - painted back or not. I just don't want to you misunderstand.

What if you get some like 5 on one bulb that gives out a wide angle light disperse?

Once you paint the back you would have to sand it off then it would be clear which would be what you want for the soldered in LEDS

I tried everything when I did my cluster, I was desperate for good results with the understanding that I wouldn't make it look like "gee this guy has a blue cluster but it looks all ghetto with bright spots". It took me a month of trials and error working on this, when I didn't even have my truck. Result is what you see - In real life you would swear it comes stock that way from ford. Engineers spend alot of time trying to get the fewest bulbs and the flattest output.

If I could do it all over again I would use Ozniums surface mount LEDs. I want to try that product so bad that I'm constantly thinking "gee I should take the cluster out of the 03 (which is my winter beater) and do an LED cluster for it, even better than the 04"
