Default '94 Instrument cluster upgrade

Hello everyone. I recently asked about suspension upgrades and your comments were very helpful.
My project Ranger includes a 302 swap. I'm going with a 32 intake/carb combo. Serpentine belt system keeping all of the amenities. I will be running a C4 trans built by a friend. I'm looking to swap gauges along with steering column. I want to keep it looking stock but I want little more modern gauges and speedometer. I have had luck finding some digital gauges however they are too expensive for trial and error. In other words I don't want to have a thousand dollars tied up in my instrument cluster. My wife would kill me. DEAD. I would appreciate any help or links to gauges that I can swap in the factory cluster.
Nothing on this truck will be computer controlled. When I get started I'll be sure to post pics along the way.
'94 Ranger 5.0 project.

Default Re: '94 Instrument cluster upgrade

There is a White Faced Explorer Cluster and a Silver Faced Ranger Cluster out there, plenty of clusters on eBay. The newer you go, i.e. '00+, you will only find the Tach/Speed-O Type of Cluster, if that is what you want. Not sure if the '94 has mechanical Speed-O or not but that is something you will need to determine.
Just a couple of things I have found.
The '04+ Gauge Clusters are more computer feed-back types and will not work on anything '03 and back.
The '95 to '03 are close in function, but the '98-'03 are closer. Since you are talking '94... not sure where the twill go.
The Indicator lights are a little different, and Speed-O setup and function is a little different.
Get some schematics and compare the connections, see if the functions of each Clusters Connector goes to the same thing in both Cluster you want to swap.
I am using a Speed-O only '99-'00 Cluster, Custom Face, swapping with a "03 Tach Type Cluster, with the Help of RonD and 410Customs from other Sites, it was determined that the only difference is one indicator light... thank God !
If that indicator comes on I know it will be something different.
Unless you know the electronics of a vehicle or you have someone to fall back on find someone, it will make the swap a lot easier.
