Hello everyone! long time reader, first time poster.
Im having a stall issue with my 2003 4.0 sohc ranger. Idles rough and dies sometimes at idle. It will also buck or jerk once in a while. I have new plugs, wires, coil, iac, tps and intake gaskets. Im wondering if i need a custom tune since i have headers. I dont think thats it because it ran like a badturd when i first put all the mods on and a month later im having this issue. Any suggestions i will appreciate. Also, im a newbie here so no cyber bullying. Lol

How's the air filter? Also try cleaning the mass air sensor. Known to cure many instabilities.

Air filter is brand new and i have cleaned and changed the maf sensor. Looked for vacuum leaks. The diagram on the truck under the hood is not that great it doesnt show all the vacuum lines. Im sure it is something simple. I cant wait to figure it out. Thank you for the reply.

If it's only happening at idle and still drives fine check your IAC valve. A quick but not full test is to simply unplug it while the truck is running. If it gets worse or stalls completely then the IAC is still functioning somewhat. If there's no change at all then the valve is stuck closed or clogged. Still easy enough to just pop it off and scrub it with carb cleaner and make sure the valve moves freely.

Re: Hello everyone! long time reader, first time poster.
Thanks for the help, but i have tried that and it is working. Im thinking vacuum line or maybe radio capacitor. I just checked it cause my radio had interfence and the wire was not seated in the plug very well. I fixed it and in 30 minutes it will be ready to hook up and check.

Plug wires was the problem. Only buy motorcraft plugs and plug wires. I still have a small hesitation at idle, but the truck is running great other than that. Thanks for all the suggestions i appreciate it.
