AC Relay
1998 Ford Ranger XLT Manual 5-speed 4 cyl 2wd ext cab
My AC has been going on and off for awhile. I haven't determined if there is a particular set of circumstances that cause it to come on or go off. Usually, it will come on when I first start the truck and drive for a distance. After that, it comes and goes.
I watched a YouTube video showing this repair which is why I'm trying it. The Ranger in the video was experiencing the same problems as mine. I thought I would try this solution which is fairly cheap to see if it would fix the problem. He removed the relay but didn't show exactly which realy it was. It was square in shape.
I have the diagram of the fuse/relay box under the hood. The number given for the AC Relay refers to a rectangular shaped relay in #2.
I went to an auto parts website and put in my truck information and it gives a result of different brand relays. The relays are all square. The relay in the block is about half the size of the website recommended relays. Different websites recommended the same relay. None recommended a relay that was rectangular in shape.
Is it really the AC Relay I need to replace or a different one. I read where someone commented this relay also affects the washer pump which is not working either. Maybe I should replace that relay.
Any suggestions?
