Default Rear door latch

I know there's a lot of problems with the rear latch and I've found a lot of threads but nothing of my issue.
I just bought a new to me ranger and I've been slowly doing work to it and my biggest problem is the passenger rear door.
It will not latch on the bottom but I've sprayed pb in there took the panel out got it all and I can move around like nothing with a screwdriver back and forth but the other side will latch if I press in, this side doesn't.

Is it missing a piece in there or so I need a new latch and if so is a little latch like that really 80-120$?!

Here's a pic of the truck for entertainment

When yo use a screwdriver to move the latch mechanism you should feel it catch and lock around the screwdriver if it does not then it has a bad catch in it.

You will probably need a new latch.

Unfortunately junk yard rangers about half the time will have an identical problem. I would check e-bay.

A couple notes:

It clicks twice if installed properly, 2 stages.

A little bit of adjustment on the striker goes a long way.

Mine was too far in and was only clicking once. I actually had to adjust my striker out to get the door to close tighter.

I was going to post the same thing. LOL Striker adjustment is something to do every couple of years.

you aren't from a heavy salting state are you? I picked my truck up a year ago, one striker was replaced, but not placed in the right spot, trying to move the striker I stripped that torx bolt out with zero effort

I got a door off of a 2011 in a lighter blue for $75, I'm in the process of sanding it all down to repaint, the door had a rot hole near the latch so salt most likely killed it. Is there something different about the passenger door than the driver I see a lot more rotted out than the drivers side?

at least here salt piles into the slush near the shoulder, it just ends up getting kicked up and stuck to the passenger side since thats where it pools

My current 2000 Ranger 4x4 had the lower part of the r/s rear door start to bubble up from rust from the underside. I got a good used door from a JY & striped it down & had it painted to match my truck.

Ok guys new issue. Before I put the new door on the door ajar light was steadily on never making a noise. Now with the new door on all wired up it turns off but every so often I turn hard or hit a big bump it dings and goes on and off like crazy. I tried adjusting both the front door striker and the back door striker on the bottom. They both close tight and hold, tried wd no luck. I was excited to get in my truck at 430am for work in the dark with a dome light but I had to take the bulbs out again I’m going crazy what am I missing here

I’ve been searching for hours, is it possible to get that switch out of the rear door and bridge it? Everyone just says “spray it with as” well it’s not my latch it’s good I had two different doors. What else
