Broken Speedometer in a '93
I'm new here and my first question is does anyone know how to fix a speedometer that doesn't read, it's had little fits where it would randomly fly all over the place since i got the truck, but a while back it flung all the way around to the bottom of the dash and hasn't moved since, anyone know what the problem could be?

Re: Broken Speedometer in a '93
Loose wire? the speedo is all electronically controlled in the later gen trucks, and something as simple as a loose connection could cause this problem. Also, it could be that the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) has gone bad. Or even the cluster may be bad. A cluster from a junk yard is a pretty cheap option to try if you don't find any loose wires.

Re: Broken Speedometer in a '93
I'd say it's the speed sensor in the chuck (on top the rearend) which reads your speed via the exciter ring on the ring gear or as stated above, check the wirin to that sensor. Very RARE for the speedo itself to go bad. I've got a couple layin around here somewheres, as I use Autometer ones in my trucks.
Let me know if ya need one and I'll dig one up.

Re: Broken Speedometer in a '93
I priced the sensor today, it's cheap enough i'll try replacing it and see what happens

You have a 93 your speedometer runs off a cable.

Not sure you need to replace it, just make sure it's all wired in right first. I had the same problem.

Re: Broken Speedometer in a '93
guess i'm just going to have to pull apart the cluster then and take a look and see if the cable came loose from the back, then check the other end

Re: Broken Speedometer in a '93
There must be no problem with your speedo meter the gear attached to your speedo gear attached to your tyres must be jamed look for the good mechanic he will solve the gear jam problem.

Re: Broken Speedometer in a '93
tore the dash apart, the needle was just stuck, but i changed the clutch, and when i pulled the speed sensor, the gear is worn down, so that could explain my problems
