Default steering wheel leaves black crap all over my hands...

its like grease, and its sticky and hard to wash off. I looked in the local junk yards and no dice finding one local. Ebay's cheapest wheel is $60, and doesn't look in great shape. Anywhere else to buy one? anybody parting one out?

When I get around to my steering wheel swap (if you haven't found a replacement ny then) I can send you my old one, it's worn out and non leather but it doesn't leave residue on your hands.

Could consider covering yours with leather. ~ a month or so ago there was a guy in here that replaced the leather on his steering wheel and stitched it on; the final result was pretty good.

*Edit: you live in AZ, sun cooks things down that way and it's much faster if the vehicle isn't parked in a garage. Most any steering wheel of the same vintage as yours up here won't have the problem. With that said, maybe a visit to car-part.com or shop up north for one.

I called around a half dozen pull a part places, found one that did had a non leather wrapped wheel in OK condition. I will probably Paracord wrap it, so it looks and feels nicer. They also had airbags for bother driver and passenger, the big thing though is I need to switch the cruise buttons over.

If you can wrap a steering wheel yourself you'll have no issue with the cruise buttons. 2 screws and 1 plug each and that's it.

Cool, figured it was easy. Hopefully I'll get time to do the work today.

I totally recommend cutting off/sewing on new leather. I did mine for 10$, no experience doing this, and it looks and feels great. I did a write up on the project, which took about 2hrs plus planning. One day I may buy a thicker leather wrap and re-do it so its softer/more like OEM wrap. Check it out here:

Thanks, I ended up picking up a wheel at a pull a part place, cleaning it up and wrapping it with Paracord. Living in AZ I always have my wheel covered, so it didn't matter if I had a leather wheel or not.
