How to Remove Door Scuff with Rusty Screws?
Hey, guys! I'm completely new to this forum and the Ford Ranger (2003 Edge). This is actually my very first vehicle and do not regret my purchase. With that said, as the title states, I want to remove this door scuff on the driver side of my cab, because it was damaged when I purchased it and requires replacement as a result. However, the screws that continue to hold this door scuff together are rusted to the point where the screw heads are unable to be turned by a screwdriver. Unfortunately, I live in Massachusetts, so you already know the deal. Would anyone have any idea on how to forcefully remove this defective door scuff without causing further damage to the cab?
Here are some pictures:

Thank you in advance, everyone!

Try a stripped Screw Remover Bit and see if you can back it out. https://www.zoro.com/vermont-america...MDsg&gclsrc=ds
Otherwise you're looking at having to drill that out.

Re: How to Remove Door Scuff with Rusty Screws?
Yeah, I already know the deal. This has got to be one of the dumbest places to put Phillips head screws. They should used the same kind of scuff plate that they used on the 4-door extended cab.
I've learned over the years that once those screws strip out the best way to remove the whole strip is to place a claw hammer under the plastic part and the screw and pry the whole thing up. This will also keep you from tearing the scuff plate up most of the time if it isn't already cracked.
Good Luck

Re: How to Remove Door Scuff with Rusty Screws?
Thank you for the recommendations, guys. I actually just discovered that applying WD-40 to the corroded screw heads might be able to loosen them and allow me to hammer them out completely. Here's some links as references:
http://homeguides.sfgate.com/remove-...ews-26999.html
http://autorepair.about.com/od/tools...bolt-artcl.htm
I'll try that before I consider drilling.

Ok I get it now.
Don't hammer them completely out. Gently hammer them, to work the pb blaster in and break the rusty seal. Be patient. Then they should unscrew

On mine I felt along the bottom under the truck and found the screw threads, doused them down with WD40 and they came right out.Give the screw driver a tap with a hammer, that also help break them loose after the WD40 soaks for awhile.

Re: How to Remove Door Scuff with Rusty Screws?
More importantly, where does one get a replacement? Both of mine are cracked in the same spot, as are all the ones I see in the Junkyard.
Or has someone come up with a DIY or aftermarket alternative to these pieces of junk?

Re: How to Remove Door Scuff with Rusty Screws?
If you have the regular, 2-door cab like me, this is likely to be the part you need: https://www.amazon.com/Ford-F57Z-101.../dp/B000O09H5U
In case that link expires, the part number is F57Z-1013208-A.
And for other parts, definitely check out http://www.fordparts.com. From there, enter your VIN, search for the part number of the part you're trying to replace, and find the exact part on Amazon or eBay. That site also sells individual parts.
That's at least the case for the United States. I'm unaware of the Canadian equivalent of the VIN system we have here.
But anywho, I managed to get all screws out! Applied "Specialist Rust Release Penetrant" WD-40 to the screw heads and let it soak through and loosen the screws overnight, pried what remained of the door scuff with a claw hammer, then used an adjustable wrench to unscrew the screws and the pieces of the door scuff surrounding them. A drill was never required. Hope this helps someone out there! Thanks for the help, guys.
Now, to find right-size stainless steel screws that will survive Massachusetts winters...

Got a link to the right screws? I don't necessarily need Stainless. Just having a tough time finding OEM replacement screws for this beast. All mine are rusted.

It's a door scuff plate, go to ace hardware and buy some screws.
