Apologies, I should have clarified that I'm not seeing the same black phosphate, screw+washer assembly of the right size at hardware/parts stores. Appreciate your input regardless.

Here is the OEM part I eventually found: https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts...sy-n800942s58x

Good luck finding that at a hardware store.

Here we go making a mountain out of a mole hill. It's just a sheet metal screw and doesn't need to be OEM to last the life of the truck.

Otherwise you're looking at having to drill that out.

Do you have any idea WTF you are talking about????? It's a sheet metal screw that is fully accessible from both top and bottom.

Hey I thought this forum was a place for help, not trolls that enjoy lipping off.If you don't have nothing nice to say then go away. He had a civil question, so give him a civil answer. I just wish I bought stainless screws my OEM screws are already rusted after 5 years.

Thanks - I got that vibe too. Every community has a few of 'em.

I dabbed a bit of poly onto the OEM screws - hoping that buys me a few more rustless years. It's a simple thing but aesthetically I prefer the black screws over SS metallic screws.

Same here, thought I could drop some back paint on the stainless screws.I've watched him for at least five years and never heard him say anything nice.

Theres a reason why all Delorean Cars came in one color.., raw Stainless Steel..! Stainless doesn't keep paint for a reason. NOT that it can't be painted but -

"Stainless Steel needs Oxygen to repair its Chromium Oxide Passive Film which prevents corrosion. So not painting Stainless Steel is best.

Not painting gives good exposure to Oxygen to repair itself if any salt or contaminants get on it – so long as the Stainless is maintained (washed every so often, if used externally) and of a suitable Stainless grade and finish."

Thanks James great info. So I will stick to rusty black or stainless as it is.
