Default Bulb in headlight switch

Is the bulb in the headlight switch replaceable or do you have to replace the whole switch.

I haven't found any replacement bulbs for the switch & ford wants you to buy the $80+ switch... but I LED mod the bulb holders for a plug-n-play swap

Arrow Re: Bulb in headlight switch

Here are some pictures of mine.

Buggman green led for the top indicators. Then I added a red LED inside the knob itself. Looks really good, OEM really. And matches all the other dials on the cluster/HVAC that have red indicator light.

I haven't found anyone that has done this before. I tapped into the wiring that also powers the LED, so that means the red LED is also on as soon as you turn the truck on, just as the green led above it is. That way you can always see where the headlight switch it.

Not sure why Ford didn't do this from the factory.

Can you tell me how you did that? That looks awesome. I took my headlight switch out and it only had one tiny bulb that was blown. Plus the bulb broke when I tried to remove it.

Got the LED from my computer modding bin... But searching ebay for square leds should turn up a lot. Really ANY size led would work. Round 3mm would do if you just wanted the illuminated dot. I choose the square only because it matches with the HVAC knobs, so the consistency is the same when looking at both. Honestly though if you were not a ford own then I doubt anyone would even know or pay attention and think it didn't come from the factory like that..lol

It was super easy. I just tapped into the wiring that illuminates the indicator LED that is for our headlights already. That way when the truck is on that knob led is on. I ran two wires and then gave it some slack so that when you would turn the knob to the right or back to the left it wouldn't tug or break the wires. If you are good at soldering it should take no time at all.

The hardest part which really was just really more time consuming than anything was taking the needle file that I had to make the shape of the cutout for the LED. Had it been a standard round LED it would have taken 20 seconds to drill the hole and pop the LED in. I think it took me 20 minutes of slightly filing then checking led fitment, repeat...etc.
