First Gen. Bench Seat In 5th Gen.Truck ?
Anyone ever install a first gen. bench seat in a fifth gen. Ranger? Maybe I'm nuts, but I think a tuck and roll black vinyl seat would make my truck more old school and would be very comfortable. Any ideas on install or what might work? I think a 42" wide seat would be about perfect.I would prefer a none split solid back and bench.Something like this with a Ford logo.

I LIKE IT! But I've gotten partial to the fold-down armrest, but I've seen that style seat with a fold-down armrest, but I think it was in a classic car.

Re: First Gen. Bench Seat In 5th Gen.Truck ?
I like the storage capability of the armrest, but I really never have it down for the armrest feature. I think the 60/40 seats are down right fugly. I need to get my FX4 speedo in next, after that I might try to find a first gen. seat in a jy and try to tackle that, just concerned about the seat belt wiring more than anything. I believe this is a picture of a first gen. seat and it would look sweet in black tuck and roll. Icing on the cake would be a Mustang auto floor shifter!!!

A friend of mine has 1st gen bench seats in both of his Rangers, both 1999 standard cab models.
Not sure how he did it, or what exact year the seats may have come out of, but it's definitely doable.

Soon as it warms up, I'm heading to the local JY's around here, seems all they have is old models, nothing new around my area.I figured 1st gens would fit best.

This is what I was thinking of doing, but with the cloth 60/40 1st gen seat.
I can say I had a base 1st gen red vinyl seat in my 51 dodge pickup and it was very comfy, and the factory design had nice vertical pleats. But the only colors I've seen are porno red, blue and tan, never grey or black.

Your right on the colors, as I was looking for black and not available.Do you know if they were all cloth, or did some come in vinyl?Another thing I noticed they still make roll and tuck seat covers, for the bench seats,as I seen them on eBay.

most of the solid bench 1st gen seats I've found were all vinyl bob. and surprisingly many seem to be in decent condition. they are usually in the most basic XL or "custom" 2wd trucks then the ext. cabs usually have the cloth 60/40.
I had also thought about cloth 1st gen bronco II low back bucket seats, but they are tough to find in good condition and again always the wrong color.

I always wanted to do this myself, but never did find a good condition bench seat.
I'm pretty torn about it. I love bench seats but I also want captains chairs in my f150, lol

Re: First Gen. Bench Seat In 5th Gen.Truck ?
Black was an option in the early years, but just like the F-Series, it's very uncommon. Black interiors stopped on the F-Series by 1987, so I imagine the same can be said about the Ranger since it was updated around the same time.

Ryan I would be more interested in the cushion condition, as solid black tuck and roll seat covers are available.

So the bench seat came in the 83-87 years?

Re: First Gen. Bench Seat In 5th Gen.Truck ?
Thanks a lot Keegan, that is a great buy, but I'm still tied trying to get my FX4 black speedo installed and can only tackle one project at a time. I'm still waiting to read what's involved with the seat belts and what the install is involved, before I make the plunge.Plus LOF as usual! LOL But that sure is nice of you to offer the help and I greatly appreciate it. Bob C.
