Default Parking Brake Release Handle Broken

Like I'm sure other people have experienced, my parking brake release handle snapped off and really bugs me having nothing to pull. From the looks of it the entire assembly has to be replaced. Anyone have a how to or video on this? Or a good mod to replace the original? Thanks! 00 XLT Supercab 2WD 4.0

I try to source metal hardware to replace plastic. Ive used this idea on older field equipment. Never used stainless, too hard.
expo forum a very clever solution:

Default Re: Parking Brake Release Handle Broken

Hi Guys

I too am having this problem. I really want the original Ford parts to refit as all my parking brake handle parts are missing. I want to rebuild my 1996 Splash. I have searched everywhere on Autozone and Rock Auto etc. But cant find anything remotely mentioned regarding these parts on those sites.

I am assuming that there is a cup shaped holder that the handle fits in as well. And I don't have the bracket that I assume holds the handle in place either. I have the hook with a thread on the end that I assume the handle screws onto. But it is so difficult to reach down that far to find it and pull it to release the parking brake. It all works otherwise just very difficult to operate.

I checked out the link in one reply but I ain't no engineer to be able to make such a thing.

Can anyone tell me the names of these parts and or somewhere I can purchase them from please?

Thanks

Edd

Have you tried finding the parts at a local salvage yard?

Same problem here. The original handle was plastic and molded on a knurled metal rod. I was hoping to find a T-handle with some set screws that would fit over the metal rod but so far I haven't found anything.

I replaced mine for $ 24.99 on ebay. Just search for, “parking brake release handle replacement” on ebay. It installed really easy and took about 30 seconds. Works great and you don't have to remove or install the inside parking brake assembly.

It's been over 3 years ago so the OP probably drives something different by now. It would take one hell of a yank to break a parking brake handle.

Someone else who reads this might be interested in an easy fix. Who are you? The moderator or a troll?

I have same issue and found good cheap fix on another thread. Im posting here for others.
They were discussing a way to put a bit of stem, with/without something thst could be useable as a handle on it, and placing it along side metal rod and clamping together with small U bolts. This is one guys response after trying suggestion.

Used a piece of All thread rod 8/32
(2)ubolt/cable clamps and of all things a
drawer pull normally used on cabinets or
furniture. (nice brushed stainless so it
looks good when the door is opened.)
Gave it a few pulls and seems to be
holding
All thread .84 for a 2' piece
drawer pull $2.99
cable clamps $1.87 (came in a pack of 3)
Total $5.70 plus tax
Saved $144.30 and the aggravation of
installing the whole PB assembly.
Thanks for the tip!

They also discussed using the T handle on an allen wrench and securing with ubolts to parking break rod as well.

Great out of the box solutions if you broke off handle but shaft assembley is fine.
