Default Air Temp Not Changing

I have no idea where to even start looking... I got in my truck after work and the heat was still on from this morning and when I tried to turn the temp down it continued to blow hot air. I can change the power setting just fine and can switch the vents fine but the temp control does nothing. After a bunch of trying I got the A/C on but now it blows cold air constantly and I cant get the temp to work still.

From what I saw in other threads it sounds like it could be a vac hose, blend door, or coolant issue? No one followed up in the threads though to say what actually fixed their problem... can you guys tell me what to look for with this blend door thing or anything else I should look for? Thanks!

It is not a coolant issue. What it is 90% likely is the blend door is broken. As above, google will show you the way.

If you put it to Max AC, it will shut the coolant valve to the heater core. This will give you cold AC to get you by until it is fixed. So basically in the meantime you have two choices... uber cold or uber hot.

Yeah, I found a link that someone posted in another thread... I only have cold... feels like regular AC temp but regardless of where anything is set (besides off) I only get cold air... luckily the weathers not bad so it's not the end of the world if I don't get to it tonight...

Nope... about 1K over...

Can anyone tell me how to test the blend door? How do I determine that that's really the problem before I go trying to fix it?

I'd first do steps 1-4 in that link you posted above. Doing that basically tests to see if it's an electrical issue of the switch or the blend door motor/actuator.

If that "D" shaped thing moves as you move the temp control, then it's something else that's the issue. Maybe the blend door itself is jammed or sticking. Both of which I've not really heard of happening before your issue and this thread and never have experienced it myself. In the link it shows a cheap free way of fixing the joint between that D shaped thing and what the D shaped thing fits into, which I believe cracks in half or something. lol.

If that "D" shaped thing doesn't move, it's either the switch itself(aka the knob) or the actuator(what you remove from under the dash to visually test). If you need a hook-up price, you know who to call.

That's what I'd do first if I had it in front of me, then go from there.

So I tried a few times and can't get the actuator out. It has 3 screws holding it down; 2 in the front (no problem) and 1 in the back. I can't get the one in the back out thus not being able to check the arm on the actuator. Any ideas??

the only proper way to get to that screw is to take the dash out of the way and unbolt it then check it and replace or reinstall depending on your problems, what i did to save me from having to take the dash out again was left the back screw out... just a tip if it ever happens again

Well I would definitely do that if I could get it out to begin with. I'll take it to Ford before I take the dash out though. I'm going to try to check the cords and see if anything came unplugged somehow... then I'll take it in to the dealership... ugh

I just finished the fix in the link and it worked like a charm.. thank you, thank you!!! I was able to get that back screw out with a 1/4" ratchet and an 8mm socket. It took a long time basically turning the ratchet 1 click at a time.
You can pop the white actuator off with a big screwdriver if you're brave enough. I was afraid I'd break it so I took the three screws out and then seperated the two parts.
