Child Seats In The Rear Of 4x4 90 Ranger XLT,Has anyone ever mounted a bench seat ?

anyone know if its safe or not to put a carseat on the little side seats? has anyone ever mounted a bench seat behind the front seats??

Not safe, don't do it........also the other method is to check your owners manual about child safety seat placement.......unless something has changed you can not, and should not place a child safety seat on those rear jump seats....and be careful some states it's still illegal to put a child safety seat in the front seat (check your local laws).......all in all..the ranger really sucks for child safety seats lol, sorry to say but best bet is another vehicle if possible....good luck and you can also use the National Highway Transportaton Administrations website...lots of new and updated information reguarding child safety seats...

And incase you are wondering..I am a certified child safety seat tech....

We were told it would be fine as long as the air bag was turned off.

My son was facing the rear for a long time and then we turned it around. We pushed the seat back as far as it would go and turned the air bag off.

That could be very well true...I know in Virginia the law was behind the advances in high tech airbags that could be "turned off"...so for a while we had airbags that could be shut off....however you still couldn't place a child safety seat there....

just a cautionary *double check with your local laws* I put out there just incase...that's all...

If your car doesnt have a backseat, then yeah, you can put it in the front seat, facing backwards, with the airbag off....Do not put it in the jumpseat...It will snap the child's neck if you're moving 40mph or so and hit something because it would jerk the child's head to the left or right instead of front to back...Thats my theory anyways...Child seats were meant to go front or back, not sideways.

well thank you for you imputs.. luckly we have 2 other honda civics but i was just wondering cuz we like to go camping and stuff... ill just put him in the front seat and let my wife drive and ill use the jumper seat for myself, cuz she dont like to sit back there.... i figured id ask before i hurt my son.
