shouldn't have had problems in the first place.... but now we will have to pay for some engineers lack of design or testing...

Just a reminder to everyone out there if your truck has been recalled, get it fixed. This poor guy probably would've survived if it wasn't for the shrapnel.

Problem is, we have to wait for Ford to send a letter saying that they have the replacement parts and who knows how long that will take.

Ford has sent out the letters. It only applies to certain 2004-2006 models. Replacement parts have been available for months as well. I had my 05s replaced sometime back in November.

My mom's truck is one of those 2004 models and the letter she got said that they are aware of the problem and will send another letter when the replacement parts become available.

You would think that after the whole messed up deal that Ford did with the Pinto fuel tanks that companies would take the safety of people seriously and not cheap out. But I guess being cheap to save costs while maximizing profits is more important. Gotta love capitalism.

Parts are available. Tell her to call the dealer and ask about it. I never got another letter about the parts being available but I work at a Ford dealer and just happened to ask the parts guys about it one day.

My 06 got added a week - to the day - after I got in a wreck... Pissed me off so much... Even got a thing in the mail afterwards.

Luckily I only got slight rashes on my arms and got to work on time. No shrapnel for me!

I got the letter a good while back, then called them a couple of months ago. They replaced the airbag and I believe reprogrammed my tranny without telling me.After I picked it up it shifted 10 times better than it ever did, so I assume they had a service bulletin, they neglected to tell me about.
Really helped getting from 0-60.

Sometimes, just having the ground disconnected from the battery for a while can reset the computer and help things like shifting.
